Improving IA Processes
Information Assurance (IA) cannot be an afterthought, particularly when vital information must be secured. Even so, resources to affect an appropriate IA posture are often conflicted with meeting other organizational goals. McKean’s IT and IA network engineers work with multiple Navy customers to bridge this gap.
CHALLENGE:
NSWC Carderock scientists and engineers perform critical high-tech research and development that will shape future systems that support the Warfighter. McKean’s assignment was to re-establish and maintain the supporting infrastructure’s IA posture.
SOLUTION:
Vulnerability scanning and remediation were of course part of our support, as was Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA), and hardware/software inventory management. McKean began, and continues to support network scans and inventory asset validation. But beyond this, McKean’s team developed and documented improved processes that cover the gamut of a successful IA program.
SUCCESS:
NSWC Cardercock now has a documented IT Plan. This provides the framework for remediating and operating the customer’s IT infrastructure, and has eased procurement challenges, increased workload efficiencies and improved the IA posture.
